Assistant, Associate or Full Project Scientist - Neurosciences

The Department of Neurosciences within the School of Medicine at UC, San Diego (http://neurosciences.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body.

This position will be integral to the ALS Program in the Department of Neurosciences. Stimulated by neuropathological observations and genetic discoveries, studies in cell and animal models of neuro-degenerative disorders have begun to clarify pathogenetic mechanisms of disease. We examine the intersection of these research themes and identify several potential mechanisms for linking molecular and pathological mechanisms to neurodegeneration.

The Project Scientist will be responsible for developing and conducting research and experiments on biological tissue and cells and full oversight of the Core facility including training, providing work direction, safety, and scheduling. Independently interpret results from methodological perspective and modify methods or advise researchers of meaning or possible course of further action.
Will consult and provide scientific guidance to Core lab users and make significant contributions to Research Core studies. Active in original research including prepare manuscripts, writing and publishing scientific reports and digital presentations, and participate and present data at scientific meetings and network with scientists at UCSD, locally, nationally, and internationally.

The Project Scientist will collaborative efforts with Principal Investigator's Research and Transgenic Animal Cores as well as academic collaborators related to complex research projects and objectives. The Project Scientist will be involved in education and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

Candidates must have a PhD in basic sciences. Candidates with experience with human neuropathology is preferred.

Appointment will be at Assistant, Associate or Full Project Scientist level based on background and experience.
